I recently passed my notary test and am waiting for my live scan results. I see alot of programs for becoming a signing agent. Is there a list of type of certifications I need or is there just one? Once I am certified which agencies should I use?
I understand this is more of a broad list of questions. This is my first time actually using this message board and want to see what I can expect from it at the same time.

There is NO standard signing agent certification test or program. The signing agent industry is not regulated like real estate agents or other professional service providers. Thus, many organizations have their own certification criteria. The NNA's certification, for example, is word-for-word taken from their manual and does little, if anything, in verifying the competence of a signing agent. (Remember, anyone can call themselves a signing agent.) Many of the others are basically the same, some fraught with errors because their information is based on one state's practices, policy and procedures.
Further, I contend that a person who has never done a signing cannot be "certified" because they just have no experience and testing can only cover a small segment of the experience and understanding needed. The only organization that offers an exam based on experience is the Proficiency Skills examination by the Signing Registry. That exam, even as short as it is, takes situations from real life scenarios rather than pulling questions from any given manual. The Signing Registry also offers an extremely comprehensive Training Guide, which covers more than just performing a signing. It covers how to set yourself up as a signing business (not a signing service), problems with companies that don't pay, etc. (Email info@SigningRegistry.com for more details, if you wish.)

"How to Become A Wildly Successful Loan Signing Agent" is an excellent source for California signing agents.
The training guide from the Signing Registry is also an excellent source of information. I have read them both:)
